A New Year’s focus on a core value: relationships
We've always struggled with the idea of New Year's resolutions. They often take the form of grand plans for ourselves with the hope of sweeping life changes and they hold so much promise, often promises that come up short. At Better Outcomes Consulting, we think a lot about change - about social change and organizational change, and we have found intentions - focusing on shining a light and lifting up what we already do - to be a better way forward. For 2024 our intention is to deepen our relationships.
What does a focus on relationships mean? For us, it means thinking through all of the projects we have worked on and taking the time to reconnect with the colleagues we’ve worked with throughout our careers. It also means that our training, our strategies, and our campaign work will center on relationship-building as the key to winning meaningful victories for our movements. (We are organizers after all!) It means that the solutions that we propose will be rooted in what we know to be true - the solutions to our problems already lie within our communities.
This past year we had the opportunity to work with some incredible clients – building a student organizing program to pass legislation reducing hunger on college campuses with Swipe Out Hunger, organizing creative agencies to reject fossil fuel clients with Clean Creatives, and parading penguins through Midtown Manhattan to pressure the UN to pass protections for the Antarctic (yes, that happened) with Only One. On top of that, we have supported organizations with internal change – supporting Footsteps, Inc make essential additions to their development team and supporting resiliency and capacity for the transformation underway at the BROOKLYN SOCIETY FOR ETHICAL CULTURE. Throughout all of this work, we have had the opportunity to both build new relationships with community and organizational leaders and deepen existing ones.
In the coming weeks, we’re on a mission – not to run a marathon or quit sugar, but to double down on relationships in our own community. If you want to set up a time to chat, hear more about the work that we do, catch up, or connect for the first time, don’t hesitate to reach out via LinkedIn or at info@betteroutcomesconsulting.org
